Bridgewater Canal Breach Repair Update - September 2026
Bridgewater Canal Breach Repair September Update
Contractors begin to submit tenders for the repair works
Contractors have begun to return preliminary tenders, with the remaining due to be received by the end of October 2026. Once the tenders are opened, they will be reviewed by SLR Consulting, who will draft a tender recommendation report, taking into account contract price, contract period, and commencement date.
The planned stakeholder collaboration meeting due to take place in mid-September was cancelled. The meeting will now take place in late September/early October.
The project has and continues to require engagement with a range of regulators, statutory bodies, landowners and specialist consultants to ensure that the proposed works can be undertaken safely and in compliance with all relevant requirements. This is an incredibly complex site with issues such as a high-pressure fuel main, multiple gas main pipes, a main river, protected species, a working farm and United Utility infrastructure.
To date over £650,000 has been expended on stabilisation works, design and procurement fees and we remain committed to restoring navigation through the affected section as soon as practicably possible.
We look forward to providing further updates as the progress progresses.
