Bridgewater Canal Breach Updated Statement – 28th January 2025
Refilling of the canal including Ye Olde No.3 moorings
Controlled syphoning of water to refill the canal, west of the breach, including the moorings at Ye Olde No. 3 has now completed and all boats are refloated. There appears to be one GRP (plastic) cruiser boat that has taken on water and investigations are ongoing to establish the cause.
As the water level has returned to this section, stoplogs have been removed from Agden today, enabling boats to leave the site if they wish.
Please note, the use of the winding hole at Little Bollington is strictly prohibited until the installation of safety measures, to prevent any damage of the dams by turning boats. Materials are on order, and we hope to have the safety measures installed by Saturday 1st February, please await further communication.
Refilling of the canal, west of the breach
Controlled syphoning of water to refill the canal in this section has commenced today and may take up to 14 days.
If any issues arise, please call the Bridgewater Canal out of hours emergency number on 0151 236 9781.
Kind regards
Peter Parkinson – Director – Bridgewater Canal
